Artist Bio

About Me

Jose Mendez is a seasoned music director, pianist, composer, and vocal coach. He humbly brings over fourteen years of experience in piano, musical theatre performance, and vocal coaching for musicals, concerts and cabaret shows to every session he conducts. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music with a Specific Concentration in Jazz Studies at the College of Staten Island.

Jose has performed at various venues all over New York City as a specialist in Musical Theatre performance and Jazz, including: 100 Sutton, Wagner College, Friends of Maple Grove Cemetery, and Lady Blue. He then took his diverse talents and expertise to Santa Maria, CA, as a Music Direction intern at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre, and later, to Boothbay Harbor, ME, as an accompanist at the Carousel Music Theater. Jose was also an avid member of the New York Pianist Club from 2020 until its dissolution in 2026.

He wrote the music for Orchids (book & lyrics by Amanda DeLalla) and premiered three of his songs from said musical at Dixon Place for the event Hearts on the Wall, presented by Jordan Bean & Co. In early 2025, Jose obtained a coveted ELVTR completion certificate for Music Composition for Games, taught by the renowned video game composer, Jason Graves.

Jose also blends his acting background with his piano playing and compositional style. Some of his most notable credits include: Music Directorial: Romance.com (by Joe Simonelli), And the World Goes Round, Pianist: The Little Mermaid, Godspell, The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Acting: Shrek the Musical (Donkey), Oklahoma! (Ali Hakim), and ensemble roles in The Wedding Singer, South Pacific, and The Most Miserable Christmas Tree (World Premier).
